INTERNET SAFETY PROGRAM FOR FRESHMEN
An Internet Safety Presentation was given to the MCHS Freshmen on December 2, 2009. A representative of the Illinois Attorney General's Office High Tech Crimes division gave students very important information about dangers on the Internet.
The presentation looked at how predators of children use the computer, Internet, online social networking sites (such as MySpace) and instant messaging and chat programs to exploit and victimize children. The presentation covered how predators use the information they find online to locate children.
The dangers of posting personal information and photos on the web were also emphasized. If students have “friends” in Facebook that they do not know personally, they were given a lot to think about in this area. Also, any photos of students at parties, where they might be drinking, etc., can be damaging when potential colleges or employers check the web for information about the student.
The topic of cyber bullying was also discussed. The presentation covered some very important information for all MCHS students, and will help to keep them safe on the web. »
