On January 12, 2017, the first “Nurture Your Potential” Student Conference was held for Latino students at MCHS. Approximately 70 students participated in the event and various staff members participated as presenters. This was a great opportunity for teachers to have conversations about minority students and their backgrounds, and for students to learn of the opportunities and support in our school community. Thank you to all who helped to make this a very successful event. »

SLAM DUNK FOR A CURE

The Belvidere Buc girls basketball program along with the MCHS girls basketball program and our NHS and HOSA programs will host a Slam Dunk for a Cure game on Monday, January 16, 2017. Slam Dunk for a Cure are basketball camps around northern Illinois that are free for all type 1 diabetic children and not only teach basketball skills but also help these children learn to better manage this chronic disease and meet other children who are also diabetic. There are approximately 40,000 new cases of type 1 diabetes in the United States every year, the majority of whom are children.

The two schools will be raffling themed blankets as well as collecting donations from individuals and local community businesses to be raffled during or immediately after the varsity basketball game on January 16th. All profits collected from the raffle will be donated to the Slam Dunk for a Cure camps. Anyone wishing to make a donation to this cause, please contact one of the people listed below, or the athletic departments of either school, and arrangements will be made to collect your donation. Donations will be accepted through January 8th. »
