VETERANS DAY PROGRAM 2017

This year’s Veterans Day Program will take place on Friday, November 10th at 9:00 a.m. in the Marengo Community High School Gymnasium. All veterans and community members are invited to attend. Past and present area veterans will be honored. This year’s keynote speaker is Sergeant Deven Schei, US Army (Ret.). Sgt. Schei served five years with the 101st Airborne Division in the United States Army. While serving in Afghanistan he was wounded by four 80mm rockets and sent home to begin his recovery. Currently, Sgt. Schei is a spokesperson with the Wounded Warrior Project.

If you are unable to attend the program, you can listen to the ceremony live on Marengo Radio WXMR 94.3 FM. Approximately 2,000 community members and veterans are expected to attend. Please come to honor and show your support of our United States Servicemen and women. It truly means a lot to each and every one of them to know how much we appreciate their sacrifices for our country. Hope to see you there! »

Cheesecake delivery for those who ordered from HOSA or LAG members will be Nov. 6th. Students will be picking up their orders after school on this day and distributing them to all who purchased. »

PRESENTATION AND BOOK SIGNING

Current Image

Author Sam Quinones will be at Crystal Lake South High School on Wednesday, November 8th for a presentation and book signing.

Sam Quinones wrote the book Dreamland, which is an investigative journey exploring why opioids have become so popular in America. The book highlights how pharmaceutical production of opioids and Mexican cartel production of heroin created the perfect storm of accessibility to drugs that are leading to overdose rates that our country has never seen before. Approximately 160 people/day die from overdose in the United States, this is comparable to a Boeing 737 crashing every single day. The Chicagoland area is not immune to this epidemic and the McHenry County Coalition is offering this time to have people realize not just the extent of the existing problem but some understanding of how we got here. »
