2015 Hall of Fame Inductees Selected

On February 7th, 2015, Marengo Community High School will honor the third induction class into the MCHS Hall of Fame. The inductees are:

MCHS will honor and recognize the inductees at a dinner and awards program on Saturday, February 7th at Marengo Community High School at 110 Franks Road in Marengo, Illinois. Following a 4:30 p.m. dinner, the inductees will be honored during an induction ceremony in the auditorium at 5:45 p.m. The inductees will also be recognized at 7:00 p.m. prior to the varsity boy’s basketball game. Members of the public can attend the dinner by purchasing tickets at a cost of $15 each and are invited to attend the induction ceremony in the auditorium at 5:45 p.m. at no cost.

MCHS’S BERTRAND PART OF VISION 20/20 COMMITTEE

Marengo Community High School District#154 Superintendent Dr. Dan Bertrand was one of forty-two superintendents from across the state and the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA) to serve on a committee entitled Vision 20/20. Vision 20/20’s task was to develop an educational policy to guide the future of education in Illinois. Vision 20/20 is a policy platform which reflects the input and opinions of educators from across the state from the southern tip of Illinois through the northern Chicago suburbs. VETERANS DAY RECAP

On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, MCHS hosted a packed gym of area students, staff, veterans and their families to honor those who have served this country in the armed forces. Over 500 local veterans were invited to the event, with 157 in attendance, representing the Marines, the Army, the Navy, the Coast Guard, and the Merchant Marines. Highlights of the ceremony featured performances by school choirs from Marengo Community Middle School, Grant Intermediate, Locust, Elementary, Riley Elementary, Zion Lutheran and MCHS, as well as a performance by the MCHS band, and a Veterans Day dedication put together by the Warmbold family. FALL PLAY CONSIDERED BY ILLINOIS STATE THEATER FESTIVAL JUDGES

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Our Town on an excellent weekend of performances November 13-15th. The Illinois High School Theatre Festival judges were complimentary and were impressed by everyone's passion and dedication to their roles. We will receive word on the final decision of the IHSTF committee by early next week. If our production is selected, it will be performed at the state level this January on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. »

KITTY ALLEN MAKES MCHS HISTORY AT STATE XC MEET

Kitty Allen finished 4th at the IHSA Class 2A Cross Country Meet held on November 8, 2014 at Detweiler Park in Peoria, IL. This is not only the best finish in school history (boys or girls) but also the fastest MCHS girls time at the state meet (17:18 for 3 miles). Kitty’s road to state included finishing 1st in the BNC, 2nd at Regionals, and 2nd at Sectionals. »

The PRIDE committee of Marengo Community High School recognized eight students selected by the faculty as “September Students of the Month.” These students are: (left to right) Jenna Young (freshman), Alex Schirmer (freshman), Emily Millard (senior), Alfonso Mercado (senior), Kyle Alt (senior), Floyd Benson (sophomore), and Easton Martin (freshman). MARENGO COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL OFFERS ACT COLLEGE PREP COURSE

All MCHS juniors are encouraged to sign up for this year’s ACT Prep course. Over the past five years, students who have participated in the course have raised their ACT composite on average 1.5 points. The class will meet on six Wednesday nights (January 7, 14, 21, Feb. 4, 11, 25). In addition, all ACT Prep class students will get an additional practice test on Jan. 28th.

The course will be taught by experienced MCHS staff members who have been trained in the ACT Test Prep strategies. Students must register by December 5th. Registration forms are available on the website under Documents or in the Guidance Office. The cost of the course is $98.00 which includes the cost of practice tests, lectures, test prep materials and individualized score reports »

COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS PARENT FORUM

On November, 5, there will be a parent forum covering college and career readiness. The forum will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the MCHS auditorium.

This informational session will cover what a student and parent can do to have a successful transition to the next phase of life whether it be college, employment, or certificate programs. MCHS offers a variety of opportunities for students to learn about careers, personal interests, and the transition pathway. Topics include: earning college credits in high school, job shadowing, scholarships, and state testing. »

RADIO TOWER READY FOR BROADCAST

The Marengo Community Radio WXMR 94.3 FM tower is up and broadcast ready. The Swiatek installation crew installed the tower on the MCHS auditorium roof on Monday October 13, 2014. The next step in FCC licensing is Program Test mode. The station will broadcast and calibrate the FM transmission equipment. Final completion of this will result in an FCC license and WXMR will be on the air.
