DIGITAL SAFETY PROGRAM FOR MCHS STUDENTS

A Digital Safety Presentation was given to all MCHS Sophomores and Juniors on December 12, 2012. Sarah Migas, a representative of the Illinois Attorney General's Office, High Tech Crimes division, gave students very important information about dangers on the Internet.

The dangers of posting personal information and photos on the web were emphasized. If students have “friends” in Facebook that they do not know personally, they were given a lot to think about in this area. Also, any photos of students at parties, where they might be drinking, etc., can be damaging when potential colleges or employers check the web for information about the student.

The topic of cyber bullying was also discussed. Ms. Migas told the students that most of the cases her office handles are peer-to-peer, both teenagers and adults. The main message was “think before you post!”

Students were given crucial information that will help to keep them safe on the web. »
