MCHS HONORS LAW ENFORCEMENT, FIRE/RESCUE WORKERS

On Saturday, September 10, 2011, prior to the Marengo vs. Byron varsity football game, Marengo, Union and Byron Fire, Rescue and Police Officers were honored in a ceremony to thank them for their service and to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Honored guests were served a dinner prepared by MCHS culinary students, while members of the MCHS and Byron football teams greeted and thanked them for all they do to serve our communities.

After the dinner, all guests walked to the football stadium and were welcomed to the field by the MCHS and Byron football teams. The American Legion Post 192 presented the colors as the Cheerleaders from MCHS and Byron extended a large flag on the field. After the National Anthem was played, the MCHS Choir sang Little Did She Know. This song retells the story of passengers on board Flight 93, and most notably Todd Beamer, who called his wife and said the infamous words, “Let’s Roll,” just before he and fellow passengers overtook the hijackers on board and crashed the plane in a Pennsylvania field.

The Marengo Fire department performed the Coming Home bell ceremony. The announcer then asked attendees to join in a moment of silence to “…remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives ten years ago during the events of 9-11.” The singing of God Bless America by all in attendance concluded the ceremony. The Board of Education, Administration, faculty and staff are forever grateful to the men and women who serve our communities on a daily basis. »
